KASPAR ZEHNDER & THE MALTA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA
The third of the Piano Concerto series will feature Kaspar Zehnder conducting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra at Teatru Manoel on the 27th May. This concert is in collaboration with the Manoel Theatre.
This concert consists of an eclectic programme of interesting and challenging works, kicking off with Alex Vella Gregory’s Rhytmii Vitae, followed by Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos, which marked the beginning of the composer’s great period. Marco Rivoltini and Natascha Chircop will perform as soloists in this piece.
The last two works in the concert are Benjamin Britten’s Scottish Ballade and Anton Dvorak’s monumental Symphony Nr 6 in D Major, which captures both the Czech national style and standard Germanic classical-romantic form.
Kaspar is both a conductor and flutist, and is also the artistic director of the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra and of the Murten Classics Festival. He maintains close ties with the Paul Klee Centre in Bern as a member of the Ensemble Paul Klee, after having served as music director between 2005 and 2012.
The concert starts at 8pm. Tickets are priced between €10 and €30, and can be purchased from the Manoel Theatre website.
