Is-Sigar imutu WieqfaProduced by Atturi Salesjani Directed by Joe Camilleri Original text by Alejandro Casona Maltese translation by Joe Fenech
The play is a unique blend of surrealism and romance, a play on reality and emotions. Alejandro Casona opens an interesting window into the human soul, a trait commonly found in his works. Casona reveals a world of illusion against misery and disappointment of reality. This work has been translated to various languages and performed all over the world over the years.
For over twenty years, an old man was able to convince his wife that their nephew, who is was also a criminal, had disappeared entirely, changed his life and became a hard working family man. Along the years, he is made aware of his nephew’s death and decides to cover the whole situation up by devising stand-ins for his nephew’s family. The new couple enters the old man’s life, giving rise to growing uncertainties. Would they manage to convince the old man’s wife?
