The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be closing this year’s indoor concert season with a soloists’ gala concert on the 18th June.

This event will also serve as the culmination of the orchestra’s new vision, and a celebration of all milestones achieved throughout the year.

Under the direction of Mro Brian Schemrbri, orchestra members will perform Gioachino Rossini’s La Gazza Ladra Overture, and Maurice Ravel’s Bolero as their finale. Eleven of the MPO’s musicians will perform as concerto soloists, accompanied by the 80-strong orchestra, in three other interesting pieces. These are Edward Gregson’s Trombone Concerto, Gian Carlo Menotti’s Triplo Concerto à Tre, and Nino Rota’s Divertimento Concertante for Double Bass.

“This is the first time that we’ll be having eleven soloists performing on stage, which is a huge deal where the execution of symphonic concerts and concertos in Malta is concerned,” says MPO marketing manager Maria Blanco.

The MPO Soloists Gala Concert will be performed at the Mediterranean Conference Centre and is an hour and a half long, excluding the interval. The show will commence at 7.30pm, and tickets are priced at €10, €20 and €30.
