GABI SULTANA – PIANO AND ELECTRONICS
Internationally renowned pianist Gabi Sultana will be returning to Malta to give a piano recital at Spazju Kreattiv at St.James Cavalier on the 28th April at 8pm.
This programme will showcase works for piano and electronics written post-2000. Ms Sultana will also be presenting Steve Reich’s Six Pianos in an arrangement for solo piano and tape by Vincent Corver. This particular work is currently only available to a selected few pianists around the world, until it is premièred worldwide.
Other composers in the programme include Benjamin Van Esser, Christopher Cerrone, Francisco Alvarado and Pierre Jodlowski.
Gabi has been described as “a demon of energy, yet one of impeccable articulation” by Albert Storace. She has performed extensively throughout Europe, USA and Australia. In May 2014, she gave her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York. Since then, she’s been to Australia twice to perform both as a soloist and to collaborate with the Sydney-based Ensemble Offspring.
Her performance during a Philip Glass marathon at the Canberra International Music Festival 2015 was deemed “an extraordinary musical experience’; and her solo recital at the Peninsula Summer Music Festival 2016 in Victoria was described as “inspirational… the audience was enraptured.”
Ms Sultana is currently working with one of Belgium’s leading contemporary music ensembles, SPECTRA Ensemble, and is based in Ghent.
Tickets are available from the Spazju Kreattiv website. Places are limited, so it is advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
