What if a 70s style band went back in time and started playing top hits from the 1950s with a funky groove?

On the 22nd April at Zion in Marsascala at 8pm, What the Funk 6 – Funk ‘n Roll the 50s! will feature some of the best hits from that era along with recent hits with the same rhythm, punch and groove.

Over the past five editions, the What the Funk project has built a reputation for funk music from the 70s and all-time funky favourites. Always in a colourful set up, the ensemble is made up of an abundance of talented musicians and singers from the crème de la crème of the local music scene, guaranteeing a night to remember.

This year, What the Funk has teamed up with The Creepers for an added 50s spin.

This will be the sixth concert from the What the Funk project. There will be Mario Borg on sax, Alex Taylor on trumpet, Antoine Tonna on bass, Patrick Camilleri and Reuben Navarro on drums, Mark Kram on keys, and Sven MidensolBen Bailey, David Cassar Torregiani and Chris Tanti on guitar and vocals.

This event will also feature Janice Debattista, Cheryl Camilleri, Tiziana Calleja from Centre Stage, and Nadine Axisa and Antonello Persiano.

Zion’s in-house DJs will be spinning some tunes from the era before and after the concert. P.J. Xerxen will be hosting and Janice Briffa will act as our all-important wardrobe manager.

This concert and retro costume party will also be raising funds for the Tomasina Cat Sanctuary. They need our help to host more than 250 cats and rescue many others in the future.
