After the recent developments in Parliament regarding the dispensation of the morning-after pill in Malta, NGO Gender Equality Malta will be organising a protest in Valletta to demonstrate the disappointment of Maltese women who would like over-the-counter access to emergency contraception, on par with their European sisters.

Requiring a prescription in order to obtain the morning-after pill is counter-productive, as its effectiveness is reduced the later it is ingested. Doctors and pharmacists in Malta have also been given the right to refuse to prescribe the morning-after pill on grounds of morality, which is considered as malpractice in most European countries, even though it has been shown to be non-abortive.

Gender Equality Malta encourage those who oppose this to join in protest against this decision on the 16th October at 10am in Valletta. Participants are welcome to bring their own signs and placards.

At noon, a short walk will commence from St. George’s Square, Valletta to Parliament.
