A Rising International Star At The Manoel

Pianist Louis Schwizgebel, described as “a pianist with a profound gift” by the Guardian (August, 2013) and an “insightful musician” by the New York Times (May, 2013), is one of the rising stars on the international piano scene. On Tuesday, 4 November he will perform a recital of music by Haydn, Ravel and Schubert at Teatru Manoel.

At seventeen, Louis won the Geneva International Music Competition and, two years later, the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York. In 2013, he was announced as a BBC New Generation Artist for 2013 to 2015.

Louis has already played with many major orchestras across the globe and in some of the finest concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Royal Albert Hall, Tonhalle Zürich, Musikverein, Konzerthaus Vienna, KKL Lucerne, Mozarteum Salzburg, Smetana Hall Prague and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. He records for Aparté and his first solo disc, Poems, which features works by Ravel, Liszt, Holliger and Schubert was released in 2013, and received four stars and an enthusiastic review from Germany’s Fono Forum.

The recital on 4 November starts at 8pm and is produced by Teatru Manoel. The full programme includes three very exciting and diverse pieces: Josef Haydn’s Keyboard Sonata in C major, Maurice Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit and Franz Schubert’s Sonata No.16 in A minor.

Tickets are all €20 and discounts are offered for students and kartanzjan holders. Primary school children go free but must be accompanied by an adult.
