Freedom Day: events on 2 & 7 April

In celebration of the 39th anniversary of Freedom Day, the National Festivities Committee invites the audience to enjoy a musical performance by the Armed Forces of Malta band and the Malta Police band in St George’s Square in Valletta.

On Saturday the same week, a traditional Regatta in the Grand Harbour will organised by the Malta Rowing Association with the support of SportMalta. Traditional Maltese boats races will take place, including Boats A tal-Midalji, Frejgatini, Boats C tal-Pass, Kajjikki, and Boats B tal-Pass in both Open and Reserves categories. The winners of each race will receive trophies and special prizes. The Shield presentation will take place once all the races are finished. Clubs that obtain the highest number of points in both the Open and Reserves categories will be awarded the Shields.

Lecture on the legacy of the Knights, 3 April

The Sacra Militia Foundation, a VO that studies the military, naval, and other aspects of the Order of St. John, is organising a series of public lectures. The first talk of 2018 will take place on Tuesday, 3rd April 2018, at Casa Lanfreducci, the headquarters of the Maltese Association of the Order of St John at Valletta, Pjazza Jean de Valetta. The speaker, Mr Gabriel Farrugia, will speak about maritime identity.

Opening of the International Spring Orchestra Festival, 6 April

As reported, The Festival’s opening concert, to be held at the recently refurbished Manoel Theatre on Friday 6th April, will present a breathtaking programme featuring Shostakovich’s most profound work, his Fourteenth Symphony. Other works in the programme include Fiorini’s new Pentimenti, a Valletta 2018 Foundation commission, and Honegger’s Second Symphony. The festival will continue until the 14th of April.
