WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS YEAR’S CARNIVAL

The Triton18 Ball is being postponed to Sunday at 7pm.Friday’s 09/02/18 Carnival activities were cancelled due to heavy rainfall. Floats still made their way to Valletta on Saturday morning, travelling from Marsa to Valletta under a specially installed protective tent on Saturday morning instead. They could be seen hidden under the arches of Valletta.

During the previous night, Carnival organisers, Festivals Malta along with Carnival participants moved the floats under the shelter of this tent in order to protect them from the wind and rain. As such, all participants’ work has been safeguarded and can still be fully enjoyed by the public from Saturday evening onwards.

Festivals Malta, together with the Police and Transport Malta, had to improvise to best organise the floats transport once the weather cleared up. Festivals Malta also appealed to the public to make use of public transport as much as possible in order to avoid using Marsa roads leading to Valletta and alleviate excessive traffic congestion. Affected Marsa roads included the industrial area near ONE stations, Aldo Moro Street (towards Santa Luċija), Marsa Cross Road, Patri Feliċjan Bilocca Street, Fishermen Street, the Menqa project area, and Spencer Hill.

However, Sunday activities should run as planned, and the Triton18 Ball was postponed to Sunday at 7pm.

Tickets purchased for the Friday show could then be used for both the Saturday show, or the Monday show, which starts at 3.30pm.
Festivals Malta will keep the public updated regarding any changes to Carnival activities via the official website www.karnivaltamalta.org and through the Facebook page.
