26-year old Deandra Agius from Vittoriosa is a very positive and outgoing person. She got married at the age of 23 to her very supportive husband Gianpiero Zanca. She started her acting career on local television in 2009 in the series L-Evanġelisti as Domenique with Take 2 for two seasons.

Following that, she had the opportunity to take part in one of the most popular Maltese comedies, Deċeduti, as Jackie Linwood. This comedy also lasted two seasons. “After that, I took part in the drama, Prima Facie, in which I had the role of a 16-year old girl called Amanda Gallo. After two years missing from television, thanks to Steve Dalli and Justin Farrugia of Sharp Shoot Media, I’m now back this year in Strada Stretta with the role of Lilly – a bar maid and resident in Strada Stretta. She is a happy-go-lucky, bubbly character and a generous, genuine soul. She befriends Lydia and helps her adjust to a whole new life in Strada Stretta,” states Deandra in this interview.

How would you describe the local drama scene?

Our drama scene is growing and growing fast, in my opinion. Still, we find it difficult to compete with foreign productions because of limited budgets. On the other hand, I believe that we Maltese are very talented in all aspects, and that our improvement in this sector is unlimited.

Do you have any advice for aspiring actors wanting to break into drama?

The advice I would give is to keep their minds open for all the advice they get. Be adventurous and at the same time, be patient. If you keep believing in yourself, you’ll make it.

If you could perform with anyone, who would it be?

I had the opportunity to work with a lot of good actors and actresses. I would like to work with Fabian Scerri De Carlo, although I’d also be very happy to perform with Brad Pitt!

How important is social media to you?

It’s very important because thanks to it, I can keep in contact and built a good relationship with my fans.

What do you usually look for when you travel abroad?

Culture, food, views and night life.

What would you consider to be your life’s essentials?

My family and husband are the essentials of my life. They are always very supportive in everything I do. Something I’m always looking for is happiness.
