Can you give us a brief outline of your career so far?

I started playing basketball with the Hibs Club when I was 15 years old and I played with them for five years. During those five years, we won the under 16’s and under 19’s tournament. I also won the best player of the year. After that, I went to play with the Hamrun Liberty Club where I gained recognition in the local scene due to my record of 11 three pointers in one game, a record which still stands.

After my success with Hamrun, I moved on to play for the Siggiewi Smina Club where I won the honour of Shield. That year, we were also the runner-up team for the league. I also went on to play for the Floriana Club where we won the League, a first for the club.

When did you start playing basketball?

I started playing basketball after my school teacher, Silvio Cassar, encouraged me to join the basketball team. After he saw me playing, he introduced me to the Hibs Club and that’s where it all started.

Basketball is a team sport. Are you competitive?

Yes, you have to be very competitive, you cannot win the game all alone.

How do you feel when everybody is watching and cheering, and you miss a shot?

I feel as if I have let down all of my team mates and the supporters. However, in a way, it makes me stronger and gives me strength to fight back and do my best to get back the shot that I missed.

Which have been the highlights of your basketball career so far?

Two seasons ago, I was playing for Floriana and during the Championship game, we got the best out of five seasons. It is a game I will never forget. The game ended when I was fouled on the three pointer line and we were three points under. I had to get the three shots to take the game in overtime. We managed to win the game. Moreover, in the fifth game, I had the last two free shots to close the championship. That day, the Floriana Basketball Club made history.

What are your plans for the future when it comes to basketball?

In the future, I would still like to be involved in basketball. I would also like to coach young ones to learn this amazing game.

If you had the opportunity to meet a renowned basketball player, who would it be?

I have always wanted to meet Michael Jordan. He is a legend in basketball.

The basketball scene in Malta. What can you tell us about it?

I think we need to encourage more young people to get into basketball and to choose it as a sport. I also think there should be more advertising and promotion of this sport. With regards to basketball coaches, I think they are improving every year.
