Some rest is truly blessed

sleep

It’s Saturday night, many people are getting ready to go out… hair blow-dried, lipstick painted on, glad rags hauled out. Everyone getting ready to see where the night will take them.

Not me. I am in bed, with quilt, novel and cat. I am also most probably wearing a onesie. (In case you don’t know, a onesie is an adult baby-grow.) While most people are drinking strawberry mohitos, I’m drinking milky earl grey.

And you know what the best thing is? I’m truly content. Sleep is incredibly underrated. We use and abuse our bodies, sometimes to the point of no return. I love a good battery re-charge. Also, there are many benefits to sleep:

1) Sleep is actually known to improve memory. When you sleep, your mind doesn’t just switch off, but continues to digest and process all you have been through during the day. Therefore pulling all-nighters before exams is really counter-productive.

2) If you sleep more, you are better at sports or physically demanding jobs as you have better sustained energy expenditure. Call me boring, but I am extremely passionate about my day job (a deputy nursing officer) and I want to be at my very best all the time, hence why I like to be well rested.

3) Sleepwear is adorable. And so comfortable. And cozy in winter. Dear Lord, I love myself a onesie. I own three. They are fabulous. Until you need to pee.

So anyone who says sleep when you’re dead doesn’t know what they are talking about.

Did you know that people who sleep at least 8 hours daily live longer? Sweet dreams!
